Purple is a large guest WiFi platform with a free plan for single venues and quoted plans for multi-site brands and enterprises. It works with UniFi as an external portal, alongside Meraki, Aruba, Ruckus and other hardware. GuestGate is smaller and UniFi-only, and connects without opening your network to the internet.
| Feature | Purple | GuestGate |
|---|---|---|
| Price per venue | Connect is free. Capture and Engage are priced by quote. In the UK, a small business plan costs from £10 a month plus a £99 Purple Hub | $15 a month for each portal, with every feature included |
| Guest limits | Not published | None |
| Free trial | Connect is free to use | 14 days, no card needed |
| Contract | Not published for quoted plans | Monthly, cancel any time |
| How it connects to UniFi | An external portal, with Purple's cloud calling your controller to let each guest online | A UniFi API key, through UniFi's official cloud connector or directly to the console |
| Port forwarding or a public controller address | Needed: a static public IP or hostname, with port 8443 or 443 forwarded to the controller | Not needed |
| UniFi admin login it needs | A dedicated local admin account, not a Ubiquiti cloud account | None: an API key, so UniFi's required MFA isn't a problem |
| What guests can be asked | A custom form, social login and SMS codes. First-party data capture is part of the Capture plan | Name, email, phone and your own questions, with a check for mistyped emails |
| Marketing consent | Recorded, according to its small business site | Recorded with the time and the exact wording the guest agreed to |
| Sending guests to other tools | CRM integration on Capture, and pre-built connectors on Engage | Zapier (invite-only while in beta), plus signed webhooks for new, returning, changed and deleted guests |
| Email campaigns, SMS and review requests | Automated email campaigns through Purple Engage | No: use the email or CRM tool you already have |
| Social login | Yes: Google, Apple and Facebook | No |
| Vouchers and paid WiFi | Not listed on its pricing page | No |
| Other WiFi hardware | Yes, including Meraki, Aruba and Ruckus | UniFi only |
